WiMI Kicks off 4th Annual iThrive Worldwide Care Bag Drive

November 16, 2023

On Tuesday, November 14th, Women In The Mechanical Industry (WiMI) hosted it’s 1st MCAMW Membership Committee Soiree at TopGolf in Germantown, MD. The event kicked off the 4th annual iThrive Care Bag Drive with the goal of assembling and donating 200 bags to at risk youth.

iThrive’s mission is to pave the way for foster care youth and provide appropriate resources that will empower them to obtain a higher quality of life.

Each year iThrive delivers Care Bags to local foster care agencies to help at risk youth get through the cold winter months. Care Bags are filled with toiletries and other essentials such as hand warmers, gloves, scarfs, etc.

The idea behind the Care Bags derived from alarming statistics about youth exiting the foster care system. In 2020, an estimated 22,000 youth aged out of foster care without being placed in a permanent home. It is predicted that thirty percent of these youth who age out will become homeless within 2–5 years of leaving foster care.

The MCAMW Membership, Emerging Leaders, and WiMI committees gathered with invited guest, Doreen Morris, founder of Thrive Worldwide to network while enjoying great food, drinks and games!
