Learn / Outreach & Recruitment

Outreach & recruitment.

MCAMW is committed to building the next generation of the mechanical industry. From high school career days to thriving university student chapters, our outreach and recruitment efforts introduce students to the trades and the many career opportunities in mechanical contracting.

001 / Our Story

From one student to twenty.

What began with a single student has grown into a thriving program — today, 20 students are active across our student chapters at the University of Maryland and Virginia Tech.

Working alongside Plumbers & Gasfitters Local 5, Steamfitters Local 602, and our member contractors, MCAMW connects students with mentors, hands-on experiences, and real pathways into the mechanical industry.

University & student chapters.

Our student chapters at the University of Maryland and Virginia Tech connect students with contractors, mentors, and hands-on industry experiences — and give back to the community along the way. Chapter and community service highlights include:

High School Outreach

Career Day at the Chesapeake Baysox

It was a great day at Career Day with the Maryland Center for Construction Education and Innovation (MCCEI) at the Chesapeake Baysox Stadium — supporting both Local 5 and Local 602, who are helping to educate high school students about career opportunities within the trades.

Virginia Tech Chapter

VT to DC Trip

We had the pleasure of hosting Virginia Tech students in the DC area for our annual VT to DC trip. Students toured Capital One Arena and Gallery Place with W.L. Gary and Clark Construction, attended our Membership Meeting, and networked with industry professionals at the Washington Wizards game.

The group also visited the Poole & Kent data center and their Ashburn office, gaining firsthand insight into data center operations, what it takes to bring these facilities online, and how to strengthen their resumes as they prepare to enter the industry.

Community Service

Holiday Food Drive with the Capital Area Food Bank

Students from the UMD Student Chapter collected and donated nonperishable food items to the Capital Area Food Bank to support individuals and families in need.
