004 / Pathway

Pathway to leadership.

A chronological pathway to leadership positions within MCAMW, outlining how our individuals and members can become involved with the association and follow a path to leadership within the organization.

1

Welcome to MCAMW: Point of Interest

2

MCAMW Committee Service

Members serve on one or more MCAMW local committees: Women in Mechanical Industry, Manufacturer Supplier, Service and Retrofit, Safety, and Education. Participation includes monthly or bimonthly committee meetings, virtual or in person, plus quarterly committee related events and programs such as trainings, roundtables, and summits.

3

MCAMW Committee Chair / Leadership

Active and engaged contributing members of committees serve as committee chairpersons. These individuals provide committee reports at membership meetings and serve as a direct line of current initiatives and ambassadors of MCAMW and the committees on which they serve, for the membership and the Board of Directors.

Year, Typical
4

Industry Fund Trust (IFT) Trustee

Industry Fund Trustees serve as the financial and fiduciary stewards of the Industry Fund Trust, ensuring that contributions are protected, properly authorized, transparently governed, and used to advance the interests of MCAMW, its contributing contractors, and the union mechanical contracting industry. Trustees serve a one year term, with three years recommended.

5

Taft Hartley Management Trustees

Management trustees appointed by MCAMW to the Local 5 and Local 602 Taft Hartley funds serve as employer representatives and fiduciaries of the fund to which they are appointed. Their primary objective is to protect the fund and administer it for the benefit of the participants and beneficiaries, not solely for MCAMW, an individual contractor, or the management side. Appointments are generally structured as one year appointments, and MCAMW anticipates a minimum of three consecutive one year terms given the substantial learning curve of Taft Hartley fund governance.

3
Years Expected
Trustees serving either as Taft Hartley trustees or Industry Fund Trustees can qualify as potential candidates to serve on the Board. A Taft Hartley trustee does not necessarily need to serve as an Industry Fund Trustee, but it is recommended.
6

MCAMW Board of Directors

The MCAMW Board of Directors is responsible for the overall governance, financial oversight, and strategic direction of the Association. Directors are expected to remain active, informed, prepared, and engaged throughout their term. Individuals interested in Board service should have aspirations to ascend to the Executive Board positions.

Staying Involved

Individuals with a vested interest in remaining active in leadership roles following their committee and board service have a multitude of opportunities to stay involved, primarily in the Labor and Management collaborative efforts of MCAMW and its union partners, along with initiatives, committees, and programs such as A.L.L.I.E.D, joint conference boards, and collective bargaining collaboration.
