In 1889, the leading master steamfitters in Washington DC formed an association of responsible contractors and employers of skilled craftsmen in the design and construction industry. The Master Steam Fitters Association of Washington, DC started with just six members and after multiple name changes arrived at the present name – Mechanical Contractors Association of Metropolitan Washington.
The MCAMW has played a significant role in the advancement of the construction industry in the Mid-Atlantic region.Since the centennial celebration in 1989, the Association has continued to serve the needs of its members. In 1998, the MCAMW Service Contractors Bureau was established to focus on the service industry and in 2008, the Plumbing Contractors’ Bureau came onboard. Two student chapters were established at Virginia Tech and the University of Maryland to recruit personnel. The Young Leaders group was created to help young industry executives gain professional experience thru Lunch & Learns and networking events.
Today, MCAMW’s commitment to education and training continues at the forefront of its mission. From energy efficiency to environmental sensitivity, technology to training, the Associations’ focus remains stedfast on behalf of its members.
